You’re no doubt fully aware that Hedi Slimane has departed Celine as creative director (with Michael Rider already announced as his replacement). Slimane surprised the fashion world in late September by unveiling his Spring 2025 collection for the French fashion house founded in 1945, amidst the frenzy of Paris Fashion Week while notorious for showing off-schedule. The collection and accompanying advertising campaign was ultimately the French designer’s last as Celine creative director. Slimane, who joined Celine in 2018, ventured one hour outside Paris to the commune of Compiègne for one portion of the Spring 2025 campaign. Models Ana Clara, Senna Vet, Polina Levin, Evelyn Nagy, Dana Smith, and Fatihat Afolabi roam the historic Château de Compiègne. The second half of the campaign sees Lila Moss join the girls, captured in crisp black and white.

Not even 24 hours have passed, and LVMH already has a replacement for Hedi Slimane at Celine. After months of speculation surrounding his future at the French fashion house (founded in 1945 by Céline Vipiana), Slimane’s departure was announced earlier today, following a 7-year tenure at the brand. Mere hours later, LVMH announced Michael Rider as Slimane’s successor (very much true to speculation in April). Rider, previously of Polo Ralph Lauren in New York, worked under Phoebe Philo as Celine design director of ready-to-wear from 2008 until 2018. The American designer is set to start his creative director role at Celine in 2025.

Speculation continues to mount that the French designer is to take up the mantle as creative director of Chanel (following the abrupt departure of Virginie Viard in June). Slimane signed on the dotted line with Celine in 2018, having enjoyed a stint as Saint Laurent creative director from 2012 until 2016. A good old surprise is everything, even more so during Paris Fashion Week. Notorious for showing off-schedule, Hedi Slimane unveiled his Celine Spring 2025 collection on Sunday, September 29 – mere weeks after the unveiling of the Menswear Spring 2025 collection. Slimane joined Celine as creative director in 2018 and amid rampant rumors surrounding his departure from the LVMH-owned fashion house, the French designer demonstrated the show must go on. Hedi Slimane looked to French playwright and novelist Françoise Sagan as inspiration for his latest Celine womenswear collection, unveiled via a short film titled Un Été Français. The Slimane-directed cinematic film was shot on location at Compiègne, a royal chateau situated in the north-east of Paris. Slimane’s cast of work worked chic skirt suits, tweed twin sets, babydoll dresses, Breton stripes, printed silk scarfs, and floral prints throughout the lineup, tooted in the liberatory spirit of the swinging 60s.
