Make no mistake D la Repubblica stays winning. Under the tutelage of former Vogue Italia editor-in-chief Emanuele Farneti, recent covers featuring Mariacarla Boscono and Lilli Cummings have commanded our attention completely. Volume #4 of D la Repubblica‘s ‘the BIG d’ offering is here for 2024. The limited-edition special collector’s issue is printed in a large format, two issues in one, and spread over 392 pages. Farneti welcomes back Rianne van Rompaey as a cover girl, mere weeks after her last. The Dutch beauty takes Sicily for the occasion, and joined by her fellow model friends throughout the Karim Sadli-shot shoot. For cover one (below), Rianne is styled by Jane How sporting a vintage bikini. For cover two, Rianne poses alongside Mica Argañaraz, Julia Nobis, Kiki Willems, Jonas Glöer, Leon Dame, and Paul Hameline.

“They are best friends in their private lives. It’s a great cover. Farneti is doing an amazing job,” forum member BelkaniStaCouture commended.

“Skinny besties unite. Both covers are quite nice, I have no doubt that Sadli did a fantastic job here,” applauded aracic.

“Both covers are nice but it seems more suitable for the summer, not winter…” voiced Xone.

Not everyone was so forthcoming, however. “Depressing,” described Xone upon checking out the covers.

“The same people over and over. This cover does nothing for me,” GivenchyAddict confessed.

Michael Kors has been synonymous with jet-set glamour for decades. After all, we’ve been transported to a whole multitude of ultra-fabulous locations with the brand’s advertising campaign imagery. The Spring 2023 season saw models Mica Argañaraz and Mona Tougaard take Monte Carlo. Vittoria Ceretti jetted off the majestic Italian island of Capri last season, but the Michael Kors woman is staying put for Fall 2024. There’s no signs of luscious landscapes this season, as photographers Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin stay inside the comfort of their photographic studio. Models Julia Nobis, Anok Yai and Lina Zhang assemble before the lens of the Dutch creative twosome. The girls pose throughout a series of simplistic campaign imagery, shot against a clean grey backdrop.

“Stunning!” instantly approved helmutnotdead.

“Julia looks stunning,” forum member Ihhbl admired.

“This is probably the best Julia Nobis has looked for a long time,” JohannesL chimed in.

“Wow, Lina Zhang is on fire this campaign season,” pointed out MDNA.

WAVES agreed, echoing: “Lina is killing it this season. She looks fierce here!”

“Love this. The Anok Yai shot is my favorite,” shared ghostwriter10549.

Vogue28 voiced: “Quite surprising to see Michael Kors come out a studio-shot campaign. I’m so used to being whisked away to sun-drenched locations via his advertising campaigns. I’m not complaining, because this campaign is quite strong and appealing – love the simplicity. Never been a one for Julia Nobis but I’m here for the casting. All three girls look incredible!”

Adrian Appiolaza was installed as Moschino creative director back in January 2023, following the passing of David Renne. Given just one month to build his debut collection, the Argentinian designer ultimately received a standing ovation here on theFashionSpot, upon presenting his highly-anticipated collection during the Fall 2024 season of Milan Fashion Week. Five months later and Appiolaza’s first campaign as the creative force behind the luxury Italian fashion house is here. For the “Collezione 0” campaign offering, Appiolaza commissioned Willy Vanderperre to further display his vision for Moschino. The Belgian photographer ventured to Milan to shoot the campaign, which tells the story of five women enjoying the energy and beauty of the Italian city. Those women include models Farah Nieuwburg, Julia Nobis, Laura Rylands, Lina Zhang and Rabina Righi, who roam Milan throughout the joyous campaign images.

“Oh lord… where is Steven Meisel? Because this is a disaster,” immediately called out Scotty.

“This collection deserves better. This is bad,” TaylorBinque chimed in.

Also not impressed was forum member mikel, commenting: “Willy Vanderperre is so not suitable for this.”

Not everyone, however, was so unsatisfied with the end result. “I’m actually surprised and pleasantly surprised. I love unexpected matches and nobody would have predicted that Appiolaza would call Willy Vanderperre. It’s interesting and it offers a new POV for Moschino,” Lola701 commended.

“Appiolaza manages to loosen up the signature cold austerity in Willy’s work . Not pretending this is easy on the eyes but I’m intrigued about this combo and will be waiting to see if it’ll turn out to be a fruitful collaboration 2-3 seasons in,” added alwaysademo.

“Yeah… no,” replied lookatme. “So tired of this amateur looking, snapshot photography for fashion. Are we ever going to see something in fashion with some effort and narrative and production value ever again?”

“Wow, there’s not a single bad cover! Loving them all. Malgosia’s is my favorite, though. Stellar casting,” applauded forum member thiago.

Fiercification commented: “Robin Galiegue is the don! Finally a new photographer who understands fashion. All the covers are wonderful but I’d have to go with Malgosia, Adwoa or Karen I reckon.”

“Amazing covers. The styling is super sharp and elegant,” admired Alquimista.

“Completely blown away, just like everyone else, over how fantastic each and every cover is! So much beauty, so much splendor and so much fabulosity. Almost an impossible task to pick just one favorite and I wouldn’t even know where to start,” enthused vogue28.

Ever since signing on the dotted line with Fendi in 2020, Kim Jones has entrusted both Nick Knight and Craig McDean to capture his vision as the Italian fashion house’s womenswear creative director. McDean has been on speed dial since Fall 2021, with fashion spots for Spring 2022, Fall 2022, Spring 2023 and Fall 2023 subsequently following. Change is in the air, however, for Spring 2024 with Jones calling upon Steven Meisel to lens his latest Fendi campaign installment. Models Liu Wen, Imaan Hammam, Anok Yai, Julia Nobis and Angelina Kendall come together this season, captured within a studio setting to showcase Jones’ collection of classic neutrals. Along with the Spring 2024 collection inspiration, the series of minimalist and chic campaign images, are an ode to the women of the Italian city of Rome.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“The year has barely started and we already have the worst campaign of the season… I wonder if it can get worse!” cried out DK92 when the campaign came to light.

“Why do Fendi campaigns feel like such a chore? There’s no passion behind any of them,” remarked a disapproving GivenchyHomme.

Vogue28 voiced: “Static, amateur and lackluster beyond belief. The art direction is what ultimately kills Meisel’s photography! Those portraits of the girls would’ve been far superior and less offensive without that atrocious sky backdrop.”

“I am still baffled this campaign is credited to Meisel. I never would’ve thought this was his work. It’s as if Meisel hates Kim Jones, he’s produced some of his worst work to date for that man,” aracic chimed in.

“What an abomination,” exclaimed a far from impressed tourbillions.

Willy Vanderperre remains a firm fave of Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons. The Belgian photographer replaced David Sims as Prada’s campaign photographer and made his grand Prada return for the Fall 2023 season, in addition to capturing the brand’s recent Holiday 2023 campaign installment.

Vanderperre evidently remains in the good graces of Prada’s co-creative directors for the Spring 2024 campaign, boasting a mammoth of models – just about all the women who walked the show during MFW. The full lineup includes Ajah Angau, Alyosia Salamatina, Amanda Murphy, Anica Cuca, Anok Yai, Denyse Tumukunde, Diana Skowron, Dominika Pikula, Du Juan, Elen Giunio, Elise Crombez, Eliza Petersen, Farah Nieuwburg, Freya Vervaet, Ilya Vermeulen, Jolien Bosman, Julia Meseguer, Julia Nobis, Laura Reyes, Lexi Boling, Lila Pankova, Lina Emelianova, Lina Zhang, Liu Wen, Loli Bahia, Mathilde Denard, Mica Argaranaz, Nastya Honchrova, Nikki Vrekic, Oninyechi Chijoke, Ornella Umutoni, Penelope Ternes, Qin Lei, Rejoice Chuol, Rianne van Rompaey, Romi Peled, Sanja Dalecka, Sascha Rajasalu, Selena Forrest and Sora Choi. The simple studio-shot portraits, captured either in full color or in crisp black and white are an ode to timeless portraiture.

“They could’ve done something better with those sheer dresses. That was a missed potential,” sighed a disapproving PierreGotha.

Also left majorly underwhelmed was Urban Stylin, commenting: “I miss the old Prada where we used to anticipate their campaigns!”

“Raf Simons really sucked the life out of Prada,” stated forum member Rigida.

“Prada needs Steven Meisel back immediately,” zacatecas570 declared.

“It’s exhausting how every brand now has to have a million models in every campaign. When you aim to please everyone, you end up pleasing no one,” noted lookatme.

International travel and style magazine Holiday, is focusing on all-things Paris with the unveiling of issue #392 for Autumn/Winter 2023 (following last season’s offering which took us to Istanbul). A total of eight covers come our way for the occasion and we’re struggling to pick a favorite.
On cover one, Rianne van Rompaey stands strong for photographer Robin Galiegue while styled by Emmanuelle Alt. Julia Nobis appears on the second cover (also by Galiegue), with styling from Marie-Amélie Sauvé. Cover three is a homage to graffiti artist André Saraiva and dancer Guillaume Diop strikes a pose on cover four, shot by Robin Galiegue. Fei Fei Sun can be found via the lens of Deo Suveera and Pamela Dimitrov on cover five, Robin Galiegue captures model Lieve Siemons on the streets of Paris for cover six, French actor Tahar Rahim poses on cover seven by Galiegue while last but not least we encounter Liya Kebede photographed by Olivier Kervern on the eighth and final cover.

Sharing the same enthusiasm was vogue28: “Rianne’s cover is truly spectacular, immediately transporting me back to the glory days of Vogue Paris. What a sight for sore eyes. It’s heavenly, adore the whole concept, Alt’s styling, and the photography from Robin Galiegue.”
“Robin Galiegue is on fire,” exclaimed caioherrero.

Following his inaugural collection and campaign offering as Fendi’s womenswear creative director back in Fall 2021, Kim Jones has favored photographer Craig McDean to capture his mainline fashion collections for the Italian fashion house. The bond between the two remains as strong as ever, with McDean welcomed back with open arms for the Fall 2023 season to lens his fifth campaign installment for the ultra-luxe label. This season, however, we witness a switch-up in the casting as models Rianne Van Rompaey, Julia Nobis, Mona Tougaard, Yilan Hua, Migoa Majoang and Farah Nieuwburg take center stage showcasing Jones’ latest designs in the series of studio-shot images, with styling from Jones’ long-time collaborator friend Melanie Ward.

Members of our forum members, were soon deliberating over every pixel. “Everyone in this campaign looks less than thrilled to be in such close proximity to those bags,” laughed RMDV.
“Where they all drunk when shooting this?” asked avonlea002.
“What a sad and gloomy campaign…” sighed a disapproving Lola701.
Also left majorly underwhelmed was TaylorBinque, complaining: “I am sorry but this is not Fendi. Kim Jones literally sucked the soul out of the brand and left us with this unimaginative boring catalogue. Like seriously, he needs to go!”
“A nice Bergdorf Goodman collection catalogue… yawn! The amount of people that gets paid to come up with this mediocrity is astonishing,” called out an unforgiving FashionPower.
“Kim Jones just needs to desperately ditch Craig McDean as Fendi’s campaign photographer in all honesty, because they’ve ALL been a complete flop after Spring 2022. I’m usually a one for studio shoots but McDean’s Fendi campaigns have become so lifeless and static that it’s laughable (and painful to digest at the same time),” voiced vogue28.

David Sims is clearly a favorite of Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons. The co-creative directors of Prada first commissioned the British fashion photographer last season and now he’s back behind the lens for Spring 2022. Despite covetable collections, Miuccia and Raf have yet to win us over when it comes to advertising campaigns. This season’s minimalist offering entitled “In the Mood for Prada” sees brand ambassador Hunter Schafer make an appearance alongside Julia Nobis, Selena Forrest and Lina Zhang (Tom Holland fronts the menswear campaign). The cast poses in the studio against clean and simple backdrops allowing Prada’s Spring 2022 collection to take center stage.

Prada’s latest became a hot topic on our forums. “Love it! Hunter was made for Prada,” applauded FashionMuseDior.

“I really like this, reminds me of David’s 90s stuff. Simple but evocative,” enthused Marc10.

VogueGirl8910 is also a fan of the 90s vibe: “The campaign is flawless with that 90s photography style.”

“The severe simplicity works well. The clothes are showcased perfectly. I love Julia’s shots. The colors are stunning. I don’t even mind the text this time. This was the strongest collection Raf’s done so far. I feel like he finally made his debut,” proclaimed GivenchyHomme.

Nomar felt the same way. “I actually love the simplicity of the images because the clothes can speak for themselves. Julia and Lina look great, which is no surprise…”

“Quite a solid campaign from Prada this season and far better than previous mainline campaigns with Raf Simons as co-creative director. The minimalism and clean studio setup work incredibly well to showcase the collection and the images just feel so fresh,” voiced vogue28.

Vogue Italia March 2021 by Craig McDean

You could argue that every month is a “creativity” issue where Vogue Italia is concerned. After all, Emanuele Farneti forces us to endure themed issues just about every month of the year. So far this year we’ve encountered The Everyday Issue and The Animal Issue. Now the Italian fashion bible joins all the other editions of Vogue by focusing on creativity for March. Vogue Italia’s latest sparked debate on our forums. “The bar is set so low that this becomes passable. One of their more decent covers. Imagine that,” said MON.

“Not as dreadful for Vogue Italia standards, at least they used professional models and photographers this time…” noted GERGIN.

SLFC was in the same frame of mind: “At least they got a good cast and production team this time and it could have been worse, but I just want it to end.”

“Nice images, but the collage is laughable. It’s like an edit you make when you get Photoshop for the first time,” Style Savvy pointed out.

“Compared to all the stuff they’ve done (animals, streets, kids’ drawings), it’s amazing. But actually it’s boring and uneventful. It’s so sad to look at this magazine today. I will throw a party the day Farneti and team leave,” proclaimed apple.

“It could be worse,” confessed JPineapple.

“This is actually pretty exciting. I don’t mind Craig McDean doing his thing. It already looks so much more promising compared to David Sims doing his thing for Vogue Paris,” mikel chimed in.
