Subsequent to joining Gucci as creative director in early 2023, Sabato De Sarno has been unable to catch a break. Under the Italian designer’s direction (in addition to declining sales), the luxury Italian fashion house’s advertising campaign imagery has seen better days. Not even campaigns lensed by David Sims and Mario Sorrenti (often starring a bevy of fresh-faced talents) have sufficed. Umpteen campaigns later, there are zero signs of improvement with chapter one of the Gucci Gift 2024 campaign for the festive holiday season ahead. In an attempt to generate buzz, De Sarno brought back Kendall Jenner as the face of Gucci, who is joined by Jessica Chastain, Hiandra Martínez, Lineisy Montero, and Ni Ni. The cast poses for Anthony Seklaoui, with the campaign opening up in a tribute to The Savoy in London (a nod to the hotel where founder Guccio Gucci worked as a porter).

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“Tragic! Kendall Jenner for Gucci is so LAME. Don’t get me started on the artistic direction which is giving mid-range US department store. And Kering wonders why their brand keeps sinking,” Frederic01 voiced.

“Gucci believe they’re at a luxury level, but they’re so hungry for those seasonal profits, they’re willing to advertise on the level of Kate Spade or Michael Kors,” tigerrouge chimed in.

Yasouss stated: “I’ve seen better holiday ads from Tommy Hilfiger!”

“The setting looks really cheap,” noted forum member MDNA.

Hchloe wasn’t best impressed either. “God this is so depressing,” they shared.

“This is wrong. So, so wrong,” GivenchyHomme exclaimed.

“This campaign shows an astonishing lack of creativity. It feels so uninspired that even a department store would pass on it,” shrieked ah ah.

On October 26, Jennifer Lopez showed up in a chic outfit from No. 21 for the premiere of “Unstoppable” at the American Film Institute Festival 2024. However, the singer-actor donned a look quite different from what she usually opts for. While J.Lo is best known for her over-the-top red carpet fits, she went the opposite route for the “Unstoppable” premiere.

Jennifer Lopez was a sight to behold on the American Film Institute Festival red carpet as she showed up to the “Unstoppable” premiere in a chic No. 21 outfit. The ensemble was part of the brand’s Resort 2025 collection. The look consisted of an oversized canvas jacket in cream with a stunning blouse with a plunging neckline layered underneath. She paired it with a cute micro-miniskirt in pink, with its bubble hemline adding intrigue to the overall look.

The recent outfit was unique, as the singer often tends to reach out for dramatic pieces for her red carpet appearances. Her No. 21 fit was toned down with muted hues, making up the majority of the look. Jennifer Lopez tied the chic outfit together with a brown leather belt and a white mini handbag.

According to WWD, she was styled by Mariel Haenn and Rob Zangardi, with Chris Appleton responsible for her hair and Scott Barnes for her makeup. Lopez kept her beauty choices minimalistic. Her hair was simply parted down the middle and her eyes were accentuated with a smokey eye makeup look. For her lips, she kept it nice and shiny with a pale pink lip shade.

However, the star brought the drama to the event with her glamorous four-story Gucci platform heels. She went with a nude shade for the accessory, which played well into the muted color palette. The heels had a simple design with tiny cutouts at the front, letting its height turn heads instead.

Condé Nast spreading and sharing content across the globe with multiple editions of Vogue has become common practice. Take for example Vogue France forced to repurpose American Vogue‘s Kendall Jenner cover shoot. The magazine gets crafty again, with the unveiling of its October 2024 offering. Eugénie Trochu selects a shot from Mikael Jansson’s wide-spread Vogue story celebrating fashion shows throughout the decades. Anok Yai becomes a Vogue France cover girl in the process. The American beauty, who serves as the current face of megabrands like Fendi and Michael Kors Collection, shoots a look down Jansson’s lens sporting a voluminous afro and a lime green dress from Sabato De Sarno’s Gucci Cruise 2025 collection.

“The reprint thing is getting so depressing. All international Vogue editions have lost any semblance of a unique identity though I do really like this cover,” confessed Ribs666.

“I wasn’t expecting to actually love it,” kokobombon admitted.

“I’m not sure about the angle and maybe it could have been more zoomed in but the colors are fantastic,” shared forum member nejtak.

Ghostwriter10549 most definitely liked what they saw, enthusing: “Wow, this is so luxurious. Love it!”

“This is good. It’s commanding, sexy and luxurious. I love the tones. The lime dress and the purple makeup suit Anok Yai so well,” favored Valentine27.

“Beautiful colors. Beautiful cover photograph,” MModa approved.

Throughout 2024, there’s been a recurring theme with the covers of Anna Wintour’s Vogue. The American fashion bible’s long-serving editor has welcomed old favorites back onto the title, with seven out of nine cover subjects (thus far) having fronted Vogue on previous occasions (often more than once). Four years after her last, Billie Eilish is welcomed back as a Vogue cover star, with the unveiling of the November 2024 issue. Wintour first welcomed Eilish onto the magazine in 2020, celebrating the American singer-songwriter and Grammy Award-winning artist with a quartet of covers. This time, Billie poses on just one cover, via the lens of photographer Mikael Jansson. In the intriguing cover shot, Eilish is styled by Ib Kamara in a Gucci suit and a shirt and tie from Bottega Veneta.

“This does absolutely zilch for me. Never been one for Billie Eilish, and I despise that leaning into the camera pose. The colors aren’t at all bad, and I like the icy blue eyes and the makeup look on Billie here,” vogue28 voiced the moment the cover dropped.

“The only thing I like about the cover are the colors,” MModa added.

“The colors ARE really nice,” admitted forum member blueorchid in agreement.

Also sharing the same approval toward the colors was MyNameIs. “LOVE the colors. Hate everything else,” they exclaimed.

“I like the colors but this looks like Taylor Swift’s September 2019 cover because of the pose,” Kenny pointed out.

“Also reminds me of Taylor’s September cover from 5 years ago, but I do like this more than I expected. IB Kamara doing the heavy lifting,” chimed in KoV.

Ever since Sabato De Sarno became Gucci creative director in 2023, the Italian designer has preferred most of the brand’s campaign imagery to feature a white backdrop, photographed inside the studio, and shot by David Sims. A dramatic change in direction is in the air, however, with the unveiling of the Gucci Cruise 2025 advertising campaign. In May, De Sarno staged his Cruise 2025 showcase within the walls of London’s Tate Modern museum – with the accompanying advertising campaign also photographed within the British capital. The legendary and iconic American singer Debbie Harry is the face of the Gucci Cruise 2025 collection, shot by famed photographer Nan Goldin. Throughout the campaign series, shot inside the back of a London black cab, Harry is joined by some canine companions and totes the Gucci Blondie handbag.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“Debbie Harry for the Blondie bag is great. The bag, however. Tacky much?” asked Lola701.

“I wonder if this Debbie Harry campaign will just be a series of shots taken inside a taxi? Showcasing a variety of different handbags and dogs. Change your dog to match your handbag,” tigerrouge voiced.

“Zzzzz,” snoozed a disinterested matheus_s.

90sFan wasn’t all too impressed either. “I love Nan Goldin to bits, but art photographers are so bad at shooting fashion,” they pointed out.

Grimm reasoned: “At least it’s not another white studio shot. Of that, we can be thankful!”

“Not sold on this whatsoever, including the irony of Debbie Harry posing with the Gucci Blondie bag. I’m able to appreciate it’s not another Sabato De Sarno campaign by David Sims with a white backdrop but this just looks like an extension of Alessandro Michele’s Gucci for me,” shared vogue28.

Last week, Sofia Vergara looked gorgeous on the “AGT” season finale red carpet, rocking a Gucci dress and Sabyasachi jewelry pieces. The dress was fitted and closely hugged the actor’s curves. Sofia Vergara’s strapless dress was a beautiful nude shade that reached to her ankles. It featured a sheer corset bodice and silver embroidery that covered the entire fit, lending a hint of dazzle to the otherwise minimal ensemble.

The “Griselda” actor’s jewelry pieces were also impressive, as she went with a necklace and earring set. Sofia Vergara’s Sabyasachi gold and silver jewelry was adorned with stunning rhinestones that added the perfect amount of bling to the overall look. She paired them with dazzling open-toed heels that beautifully complemented her ensemble. Vergara kept her hair and makeup quite minimal, parting her hair down the middle and styling it in soft waves.

On September 17, the “AGT” judge attended the finale performances in yet another form-fitting dress in a bright orange shade. The fit had a plunging V-neck and was supported by spaghetti straps. One of the straps was accessorized with a huge bow that covered her entire shoulder. The dress was quite minimalistic, with her accessories bringing in the drama.

Vergara rocked gold hoops, chunky bangles, and rings that perfectly complemented her orange fit. Moreover, her footwear stole the show as she donned a pair of gold sandals. Per Footwear News, the platform heels, which are a staple, were embellished with numerous crystals that added a hint of sparkle to her otherwise plain outfit.

Three down, one to go and that’s a complete wrap on the Spring 2025 season of Milan Fashion Week. Officially running from September 17-23, this season of MFW most definitely has us in a chokehold here at theFashionSpot.

Report: Milan Fashion Week Spring 2025

The Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana looked to Kim Jones at Fendi to open up the Milanese fashion festivities. Ahead of Fendi’s monumental 100th anniversary in 2025, the designer looked back to the Roaring Twenties. At Marni, Francesco Risso’s showcase was soundtracked by a group of piano players. The designer presented a collection focusing on ruffles, volumes and dresses reminiscent of elaborate prom dresses, celebrating his ninth year as creative director. Alberta Ferretti displayed airy fabrications enhancing the movement of the body, helping get day one of Milan Fashion Week off to a fine start.

Day two of Milan Fashion Week began with Antonio Marras, unveiling a collection inspired by the 1950s. The lineup consisted of statement looks including XL skirts and hats made of raffia, and prints of tropical landscapes and palm trees. Ombré silky separates, vintage car prints, and neutral office-ready tailoring were served up by Luke and Lucie Meier at Jil Sander while Daniel Del Core doubled down on the sheer trend and invited supermodel Naomi Campbell to close his show. Speaking of supermodels, Fausto Puglisi paid tribute to the late Roberto Cavalli with a brigade of the designer’s favorite model muses.

Inspired by the discipline of scientists and mathematicians, the sleek and sophisticated collection of Ian Griffiths of Max Mara paid homage to Alexandrian philosopher and teacher Hypatia. For spring, Prada co-creative directors Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons looked to gowns in vibrant hues, futuristic eyewear, patterned knits, and revived old Prada classics for footwear. At a venue surrounded by hanging clothes, Adrian Appiolaza unveiled his sophomore womenswear collection for Moschino – where the ordinary became extraordinary.

Tod’s creative director Matteo Tamburini found inspiration for spring in a journey through the Mediterranean coast. Mid-afternoon on September 20 during Milan Fashion Week Spring 2025, Sabato De Sarno exhibited his third mainline womenswear offering as Gucci creative director. Perhaps the most anticipated event on the Milan Fashion Week calendar, the designer honed in on his love for the silhouettes of the 1960s and gave them a modern twist. At Versace, Donatella referenced the Spring 1997 Versus collection and reimagined the prints from the archive.

Inspired by ballerinas, cross-crossed cardigans, tights, bodysuits, or ribbon ballet shoes were on full display at Maximilian Davis’ Ferragamo. The iconic Italian design duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana paid homage to the equally as iconic Madonna for the Spring 2025 Dolce & Gabbana collection, complete with the iconic cone bra and models sporting blonde wigs in a nod to the queen of pop’s Blond Ambition tour. Matthieu Blazy gave power dressing a whole new, playful meaning with his latest offering for Bottega Veneta, essentially closing out Milan Fashion Week in high style.

“Can’t believe I’m saying this, but this actually makes me appreciate Jeremy Scott. This brand is only ‘good’ when it’s dumb and childish, which was Scott’s main talent. Whenever someone tries to go into a Betsy Johnson or Sonya Rykiel direction it never ends up being very good because it renders the brand unnecessary.” [GoldenPetals]

“There is something Philipp Plein or Dsquared2, in a sl*tty Y2K trash-reality TV vibe.” [yslforever]

“This is really bad, and the bags are awful too.” [TomBlanksFullFatMiuMiu]

“Boring clothes, boring set and a parade of boring girls with dead eyes. The styling was hideous, whoever put models in those ugly boots should be jailed. MISS | Roberto Cavalli

“The beginning was weird and full of copies. Very limited and one note. Then, Puglisi ran wild with the prints. The random homage could’ve been better incorporated or reflected throughout the show. It’s giving tacky. We’re missing the party, the glamour, the zest of life. Where is the excitement, confidence, enthusiasm?” [TerraVera]

“The models carried the show literally. The clothes were a shadow of the high-octane glamour of Roberto Cavalli.” [disco54]

“The problem with referencing Cavalli is that people can look up the old shows, compare and be disappointed. Cavalli was a master of glamour but also of leather. There was substance.” [Alquimista]

MISS | Gucci

“The show was a disaster. First look and I already knew it was a flop. The basicness of it. And those tracksuit-inspired pants oh dear. Seriously, Sabato De Sarno has zero vision for the brand. This collection was just a bunch of uninspired clothes put together with no emotion, no direction.” [Frederic01]

“So basic and generic! No POV at all. It’s many things mixed together to hide the lack of vision. Gucci needs somebody with a real vision. This could be a Zara fashion show.” [Creative]

“This was a trunk show. De Sarno showed everything under the sun so ultimately, everybody is going to find something they like. I find it decent verging on boring. A non-event.” [Lola701]

“What a lovely Missoni collection.” [Magic Spells]

“What in the identity crisis was that? It looked like a bad Versus collection that has been rotting in the warehouse since late 90’s. The draping numbers towards the end were offensive. Donatella should retire.” [avonlea002]

“Probably Francesco Risso’s best collection ever and possibly his closest to the spirit of Marni.” [Lola701]

“This is gorgeous. I feel like THIS is how you do luxury in 2024. It’s both timeless and fresh. I love that comic book-like quality it’s got. It fits so well at Marni.” [GoldenPetals]

“I really loved this collection! It was much more pared down compared to his previous offering for the house and I think that’s a good thing.” [Ruito]

MISS | Bottega Veneta

IMAGE | SPOTLIGHT/LAUNCHMETRICS

“A hodgepodge of ideas as per but this time it was even more disjointed. Still, no cohesion to be found in Matthieu Blazy’s collections. I found it boring. Still playing with the same motifs that he’s done to death.” [mteb123]

“I am very allergic to his BV. Everything is too heavy, cumbersome, rigid and strict. There is no ease, no sensuality.” [IloveDiorHomme]

“Very gimmicky. I think this is a collection of gimmicks with an excessive amount of fabrics. I think it’s time re-size things.” [Lola701]

“They forgot to put the engine into Rocco Iannone’s Ferrari…” [jeanclaude]

“Ferrari need to hire someone very relevant in the fashion conversation and relaunch this project. If they want any real shot at being a serious contender in fashion…” [tourbillions]

“For me, Ferrari as a fashion brand is not working.” [Lola701]

“Can’t stand it. And why new designers think it’s cool and underground to mix a bomber jacket with night dress? It’s so passe and not cool, sorry.” [Creative]

“For a brand called The Attico, this looks like it has been stored in a basement for a very long time…” [jeanclaude]

“I will not remember much of this within the next 24 hours, unfortunately.” [Cocteau Stone]

MISS | Bally

“Yikes, the tailoring is abysmal.” [avonlea002]

“What is this? Bally des Garçons? Comme des Bally? Hideous proportions and volumes, awful prints! What was the inspiration here… Quasimodo?? The disconnection with the image of the brand (the shoes) is abysmal.” [jeanclaude]

“The proportions and tailoring of those leather coats are killing me. They are so frumpy and unflattering.” [GivenchyHomme]

“To the point and classic Alberta.” [Cocteau Stone]

“I like how Alberta knows her brand and her clientele, and still manages to contribute a little something here and there to the fashion discourse, like the pink dress.” [ghostwriter10549]

“It’s all just so beautiful and so quintessential Alberta Ferretti, and I’m quite fond of the splashes of vivid bold color throughout the neutral collection.” [vogue28]

HIT | Diesel

“Diesel continues to be a standout each Milan Fashion Week season for how they are approaching show production and it’s what makes fashion exciting.” [jeremydante]

“The longer shapes with the fringe are a nice experiment.” [Cocteau Stone]

“I find it fantastic! It’s probably my favorite collection Glenn Martens did for Diesel. While Diesel is totally not my aesthetic, I think the collection was strong. It was well executed. Martens pushed everything to the max, it was tacky but with inventive ideas. It’s really fantastic!” [Lola701]

MISS | Ferragamo

“Sadly I don’t see any future here.” [helmutnotdead]

“I see Lemaire, Bottega and Dior by MGC but no Ferragamo. And I really don’t know who Maximilian Davis is creatively speaking. The POV is so weak that it feels non-existent.” [GivenchyAddict]

“This collection doesn’t really bring anything new to the table. I can’t see why a buyer would choose this when similar options are already out there. Honestly, your money would be better spent at Bottega Veneta or Loewe, where you’re getting more bang for the buck.” [GivenchyHomme]

BTS member Jin, aka Kim Seokjin, was the star of the Milan Fashion Week’s Gucci RTW Spring 2025 Show. The K-pop icon made his front-row debut as Gucci’s newest ambassador, soaking up all the attention from the audience. It wasn’t just his star quality that stole the show, but also his sweater with a plunging neckline that fans seemed to have loved. The knitted sweater with different color tones only added to the idol’s glamor on the red carpet and the fashion show.

BTS’ Jin arrived in style for the Gucci RTW Spring Show 2025 for Milan Fashion Week. The K-pop idol opted for an iridescent knitted sweater with rich color tones. The sweater featured a blend of maroon, orange, and purple hues, and a plunging V neckline that accentuated his broad shoulders. The singer also accessorized his ensemble with silver necklaces, drawing attention to his sharp collarbones and long neck.

Jin’s purple shade in the sweater might have been a conscious choice, given how the color represents the band’s love for their fanbase, ARMY. In addition, fans came in large attendance to cheer for and support the idol. WWD reported that Jin paired his knitwear with high-waisted tailored brown pants and a black belt. The pants only further accentuated the earthy look of the outfit. Moreover, the neat pleats in the pants ran to the bottom with a little flare at the end. The “Moon” singer completed his look with the brand’s black Horsebit leather shoes.

Jin’s recent appearance at the Milan Fashion Week comes after Gucci appointed him as the brand’s Global Brand Ambassador in August. Sabato De Sarno, the Creative Director of the luxury fashion house, welcomed the K-pop idol and said, “His warm and kind personality is truly magnetic, and his style is simply unique. He is a generous and extraordinary artist who is able to move people with his music, which makes us even more honored to share this journey with him.”

Elsewhere, Jin has been actively interacting with his fans through various projects since his military discharge on June 12.

Donatella Versace looked back to the Spring 1997 Versus collection, updating the prints from the collection this season, and presented within the historic grounds of the Sforzesco Castle. Inspired by Ballerinas, Maximilian Davis at Ferragamo delighted with fashion crowd with an assortment of cross-crossed cardigans, tights, bodysuits, or ribbon ballet shoes. At Diesel, Glenn Martens covered the runway in pounds of denim remnants, and displayed frayed and distressed separates. The iconic Italian design duo that is Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana gave the ultimate tribute to their forever muse: Madonna. Closing out MFW with a bang, Bottega Veneta’s Matthieu Blazy continued to demonstrate his eye for proportions, textures, and tonality.

We are now four days into Milan Fashion Week, and the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana’s schedule granted us the Gucci Spring 2025 showcase this afternoon. The collection marked the third mainline womenswear outing from Sabato De Sarno, having signed on the dotted line as Gucci creative director in 2023 (replacing Alessandro Michele). The guiding principle of De Sarno’s latest was “casual grandeur” which took shape via the Italian designer’s obsession with all-things tailoring, lingerie, leather, and the silhouettes of the 1960s. Tone-on-tone looks in Rosso Ancora , khaki, tangerine, neon yellow and chocolate brown ran through the collection, with the iconic the Bamboo 1947 handbag heralded as a statement for another season.

Gucci Spring 2025 Collection Review

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“The set design is gorgeous and the cast is on point. The clothes not so much.” [LadyJunon]

“I kinda love it. Very few looks are misses, for me.” [KoV]

“Sabato haters are going to have a hard time criticizing this one. It’s an evolution and let’s be honest, it looks great.” [signifier]

“I can’t believe we have to call this ‘high’ fashion. Boring, unimaginative, and faceless.” [GoldenPetals]

“This was a trunk show. De Sarno showed everything under the sun so ultimately, everybody is going to find something they like. I find it decent verging on boring. A non-event.” [Lola701]
